Anecdote Proven or Wave Goodbye to the WaveBird

Though it seems like years since we were first deafened by the completely unnecessary epic opening of Super Smash Bros: Brawl, we do remember very distinctly hearing a GameStop employee say those soul crushing words on that immortal night, "We've been looking for days. The closest GameStop with WaveBirds in stock is in Massachusetts." We felt a lot like Kyle Broflovski, being told for the hundredth time that we should stop asking Cartman to jump over homeless people with his skateboard -- "GODDAMNIT!"

At the time, we figured (like most of you probably did) that Nintendo, loving money, would keep making the seminal controller. Apparently, we're all stupid and wrong. According to a Joystiq piece from months ago, they aren't making any more at all! And there we were, just thinking, "No big deal! There'll be more!" According to a Nintendo customer service representative, "I haven’t heard of any plans to offer the WaveBird Wireless Controllers in stores again (I did some checking, and we are still shipping the original Nintendo GameCube Controllers to stores). If you’re unable to find the original Nintendo GameCube Controller locally, you can still order this item from us."

Fantastic. If you're looking for short-wired, 25 dollar, seven-year-young controller, Nintendo's got you covered. If you're looking for the best wireless controller ever created (before PS3 and Xbox 360 came along, of course), Nintendo wants you to know that you can go f yourself. Ebay it is.
