Dualshock 3 Game Compatibility List

Sony's US Playstation blog has released a list of compatible PS3 and PSN games for the Dualshock 3 (aka: the one with waggle and the weight.) The list is pretty extensive, covering the most popular games easily and including a lot that people probably aren't playing every waking second -- we're looking at you, High Velocity Bowling.

We can't help but point out the numbers though: 26 titles (PSN and PS3) were covered on this list and Wikipedia is telling us (though you must factor in the Japan/Europe exclusive games) that 332 games exist -- bit of a discrepancy, no?

Either way, the shiniest jewel dangling on this list is the inclusion of, "SCEA - PSOne Emulation (PSN)." QP is downright shocked that Sony actually made the effort to include rumble support for PSOne Emulation. This is probably just one more sign...the apocalypse really is nigh! What games are missing from this list that you'd like to see included?

The List:

  • SCEA - Formula One Championship Edition* (PS3)
  • SCEA - MotorStorm* (PS3)
  • SCEA - PAIN (PSN)
  • SCEA - High Velocity Bowling (PSN)
  • SCEA - MLB 08: The Show (PS3)
  • SCEA - Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (PS3)
  • SCEA - Resistance: Fall of Man* (PS3)
  • SCEA - Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3)
  • SCEA - Go! Sports Ski* (PSN)
  • SCEA - Folklore* (PS3)
  • SCEA - Heavenly Sword* (PS3)
  • SCEA - Warhawk* (PSN / PS3)
  • SCEA - Super Stardust HD* (PSN)
  • SCEA - Snakeball (PSN)
  • SCEA - Toy Home (PSN)
  • SCEA - PSOne Emulation (PSN)
  • SCEA - Piyotama (PSN)
  • SCEA - PixelJunk Monsters (PSN)
  • SCEA - Blast Factor* (PSN)
  • Sega - Condemned 2: Bloodshot (PS3)
  • Ubisoft - Lost: Via Domus (PS3)
  • Ubisoft - Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2* (PS3)
  • EA - Burnout Paradise (PS3)
  • KOEI - Dynasty Warriors 6 (PS3)
  • Capcom - Devil May Cry 4 (PS3)
  • Atari - Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit (PS3)
  • Disney Interactive - Turok (PS3)

Oops! Playstation Europe Accidentally Drops Some Knowledge

Oh noooes! Big mistakes from Sony, and not just in any language, but in SPANISH! Well, only sort of actually. In this humble writer's opinion, the biggest deal on here is the firm Home release date, though I'm sure some of you out there may disagree, and you can all go straight to hell. Either way, Sony has, shockingly, released a press statement regarding this entire list...and it kind of makes a lot of sense what they have to say:

"Internal working documents naturally have proposed dates against titles, but these change frequently and dates are not confirmed until issued as part of a press release or formal announcement. The same applies to titles of games, which may be working titles or placeholders subject to later confirmation."

And furthermore...

"As a result, no weight should be given to titles or dates that appear in this document, other than to those which have already been formally confirmed. We will not be commenting on any title mentioned that has not already been confirmed and/or given an official launch date."

In so many words, yeah this list leaked was totally super serial, but as with most projected release lists (none the less internal ones), all subject matter is subject to change.

Motorstorm 2 Details Announced, Release Date Hazy

Playstation 3 staging a massive comeback in 2008 you say? You must be pulling our chain, world. It looks to us here at QP like Sony is beginning to bet on the right pony -- LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Home (we think?) and now Motorstorm but like, a full game? You don't say! The teaser trailer above looks sweet but isn't exactly in-game engine. Honestly, we'd be way more excited about a crazy looking new Ridge Racer, but that's just us -- we're crazy.

For serious though, Motorstorm 2 should be shipping, "this Autumn," and when it does, it's bringin' (to tha extreem!) 16 new levels and 16 player online racing (sensing a theme here?) You can also play three other friends locally with split-screen. Sounds like Sony's doing the right thing here and making a full Motorstorm like they should have in the first place -- though we doubt it'll be at the right price for what they're offering. For the full press release, follow this jump (but we don't suggest it.)

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue Cars/Tracks Detailed

Alright, seriously, the reasons are stacking up to purchase a PS3. Though I haven't played any Gran Turismo since numero tres, after seeing the recently announced car list, the gearhead in me aches to tune the hell out of an old Mazda RX-7 until it's a spirit crushing, fossil fuel decimating, 700hp beast. Yes folks, the details, they are a-spillin' from across the Pacific regarding Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. Sony didn't just tell us about the cars though, we also got the names of the six tracks included upon purchase.

Among the notable tracks, Daytona International and Fuji Speedway are most recognizable. Furthermore, some features were discussed in the press release...

"Drift Mode -- The player's drifting technique is measured based on drift angles, racing lines, and speeds within evaluation zones located at various turns on the course."

And the ever popular...

"In Depth Car Tuning -- Players have the ability to adjust the vehicle's performance, including power, weight, tires and suspension."

Let's be clear: This is still, for all intents and purposes, a very nice and somewhat polished, tech demo. It's not the first time Polyphony Digital and Sony have released a "prologue" version of the Gran Turismo series and betting on them, most likely not the last. In fairness, this doesn't seem like a cash-in so much as something to hold over fans who would otherwise be left waiting for what seems like eternity while Polyphony finishes work on Gran Turismo 5. At $40 (and that's real bucks, not space bucks), we ask you, QP'er: Who's buyin'?

Phil Harrison Becomes New President of Infogrames (Atari)

You have to wonder though: Did the rats, in their tremendous hurry to flee the sinking ship that is Infogrames/Atari, pause to look at the English beanpole as he landed with a great thud on the ships hull? A question we may never know the answer to. We do know this (from the press release):

"Infogrames Entertainment announces today [3.3.08] the appointment of Phil Harrison as President and Directeur General of Infogrames Entertainment, reporting to David Gardner. Phil Harrison also joins the Board of Directors

With the recent appointment of David Gardner as CEO, Phil and David will together form the basis of a transformational leadership team at Infogrames that will grow the Atari brand into a leading online game company. Phil Harrison will oversee the Studios and content development for the group."

Few CEO's are as transparent and genuine as Phil Harrison and we're glad to see him taking the reins of a company that could certainly use the help. Considering Alone in the Dark is the only major title we know of "coming this year" from Harrison's new stomping grounds, he's certainly, "got his work cut out for him." (We counted at least four news stories already noting that Harrison's, "got his work cut out for him.") Us here at QP wish Mr. Harrison good luck with his pre-cut workload at Infogrames -- if anyone can help that sinking ship, it's him.

MGS4 Release Date....Released [UPDATED}

A bit late with the major announcements, today Sony detailed plans for an 80gb PS3 coming in June for $499 -- with a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4 as well as a hot off the factory line DualShock 3. Oh snap! Did they just announce the release date?! Let's go with...sort of. Here's the breakdown:

-Sony says there's a bundle with MGS4 in it, coming in June.
-Sony announces plans for a, "Metal Gear Online Starter Pack"with pre-orders of MGS4...

"For those eager to take on Solid Snake's nemesis, Liquid Ocelot, a nationwide pre-sell promotion will enable gamers to pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and be guaranteed access to a multiplayer beta test for Metal Gear Online scheduled for late April."

Seriously folks, press releases really read like this. But wait, there's more!

-Though Sony has confirmed June as the launch month for MGS4's PS3 bundle, they're more vague with regards to an actual day...

"...to coincide with the much-anticipated North American launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in late Q2 2008."

For those who were wondering, Sony is actually giving you a deal with the $499 price tag for all three items:

Current Price for 80gb PS3 (w/ Motorstorm): $599 or $499 (Used for $449)
Current Price for Sixaxis (we know, we know -- the new pack comes with a DualShock 3): $50
Current Price for DualShock 3: $55 (when it's released, not imported from Japan)
Projected MGS4 Price: $60

Even with the cheapest combination of all of those, you're still getting a deal from this bundle. However, $500 is a hell of a lot of money still -- at least to this intrepid writer. How about y'all? We here at QP certainly know one lady who has already fallen under their press releases' spell. Is this enough of a deal to get you hoppin' on the Sony money train?

[UPDATE]: Konami has publicly announced a June 12, 2008 release date for MGS4, as well as confirming the pre-order bonus. Unfortunately, they announced this through a press release, and thus, you get the Joystiq link above. Oh well. We tried -- promise.

[UPDATED] Toshiba Nails Coffin Closed on HD-DVD

Accepting defeat can be hard. Some people get quiet, some people yell, some people eject the goddamn Smash Bros. disc and unplug everyone's stupid controllers -- not that we'd know anything about that. Companies take it a different way though.

For instance, Toshiba's announcement today that they are no longer supporting the HD-DVD format. If I found out that I'd be losing "hundreds of millions of dollars" because I bet on the wrong pony, boy would I be sore. You'd never know though, as so far they've stayed mum. Microsoft's reaction is much more entertaining:

"We do not believe the recent reports about HD DVD will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace. As we've long stated, we believe it is games that sell consoles and Xbox 360 continues to have the largest next-gen games library with the most exclusives and best selling games in the industry."

While this writer certainly agrees with Microsoft's statement that, "....it is games that sell consoles...." that doesn't mean the ability to play the victorious high-def format doesn't help. We must say though, there's quite a few standard-def dvds in our collection....and zero high-def (though our t.v. is most certainly of the large and high definition variety.) Either way, the (high-def) format war is over and we can't say we're surprised with the victor. Now go make some f'ing games, Sony! Enough with the cross-media items! (I'm looking at you, PSP!)

[UPDATE]: Though it's quite likely that the statement will come tomorrow (or even today) from Toshiba officially, right now they're saying (in the third person):

"The media reported that Toshiba will discontinue its HD DVD business. Toshiba has not made any announcement concerning this. Although Toshiba is currently assessing its business strategies, no decision has been made at this moment."

Oh, in case you were wondering, "Currently assessing its business strategies" should probably be read as, "CONFIRMED." Don't you just love the way huge corporations respond comparably with sperm whales at the beach sometimes?
